The poles are anchored at each end to create bows to setup the tent. Tents like this can be quickly setup and have an excellent interior space/weight ratio. The inner tent and the fly sheet are often connected. Tunnel tents which are setup in the direction of the wind are very stable. Tunnel tents can have very large vestibules which can be used as a storage area or for hanging out. The tents can usually stand up to a short snow storm. Tunnel tents are not optimal if a large amount of snow is expected.
